Our Story

The North Plains Food Bank is committed to addressing the critical needs of seniors and families in our area.
A Unique Challenge: North Plains faces a unique challenge due to the absence of a local grocery store. This creates a situation where access to essential food and daily necessities becomes a real struggle for our residents.  Currently, the Oregon Food Bank is not accepting new organizations for at least a year, so we are relying on donations of food and financial assistance from the public.
Our Vision: The vision of the North Plains Food Bank is clear and far-reaching. We aim to go beyond simply providing food. Our goal is to become a comprehensive resource for our community, ensuring that no senior or family goes hungry or without essential items.
How You Can Help: We rely on the support of generous individuals, local businesses, and concerned organizations. Your contributions, whether in the form of donations, volunteering, or spreading the word, can make a significant difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Since opening in November of 2023, the North Plains Food Bank is already serving 712 community members in need, including 197 senior citizens.
That includes 157 households in the city of North Plains, and 37 households in Hillsboro.  We also serve families throughout Washington County and beyond, including Portland, Beaverton, Forest Grove, Aloha, Tigard, Cornelius, Vernonia, McMinnville, Buxton and Graves Creek.
Nearly half of the households served are senior citizens.
The Food Bank also delivers food weekly to 10 seniors who are immobile and unable to visit the Food Bank in person.
This data was updated in December of 2024, and the numbers continue to rise each month.
